Minutes of the Board Meeting

September 15, 2004

Attendees:

Pam Chvilicek, Lisa Hempel, Mike Neumann, Judy Huffman
  1. Committee Reports:
    1. Program Committee (Report from L. Hempel):
      1. Design of Experiments Class will be a half day class October 13. Ginny Hempel will send invitations to WiSE TAG and TDN members
      2. Family CPR Class will be held by the Caledonia and Mt. Pleasant Fire Dept. Requirements are classes 2 nights in a row to be certified. It will be held during National Chemistry Week and invites out end of September.
      3. Forensics program schedule is to be determined.
      4. Planning programs for 2005 starts in October. Send ideas to Lisa Hempel
    2. Awards Dinner (M. Neumann):
      1. Awards Dinner will be (tentatively) set for November 4th or 11th (timing depends on Forensics Presentation date). Several restaurants were discussed and Selens House of Prime Ribs was chosen.
      2. Active members, managers and Gary Gonter will be invited.
      3. It was suggested that WiSE TAG determine our standards for Technician of the Year for future awards
    3. Treasury Report (no report):
      1. Reminders for membership renewal should be sent in October.
      2. New member is Sarah Hempel. Welcome to Sarah!

  2. Old Business:
    1. 228th ACS National Meeting:
      1. Cathy Hinkfuss, John Engelmann, Allen Pinchard, and Pam Chvilicek attended the TECH meetings. TECH has asked for Board member volunteers.
      2. The Committee on Technician Affairs co-sponsered the Presidental event entitled "A Celebration of the Professional and Scientific Value of Chemical Technicians in the Society-We've Come A Long Way".
      3. Leadership training funding has been cancelled by ACS. It was suggested that we ask Milwaukee ACS to help send future Chairs for training.
      4. Dinner speaker Bill Carroll presented "What Will Happen In 2015-Plan Ahead.".
        Technician courses to attract attendance were:
        • Write SMART Goals
        • Elevator Talk
        • Skills Assessment
        • Resume Writing
          Coping With Change
          Preparing and Presenting Technical Presentations
          How to Create and Present a Poster.
    2. National Chemistry Week October 18th thru 22nd
      1. Theme is Health and Welllness
      2. Glucose Monitoring kits will be available for community outreach donations.
      3. It was suggested to combine NCW with WiSE TAG's CPR class.
      4. Milwaukee ACS has asked for help with demonstrations. Suggestions were to include nutritionist and massage therapy presentations.

  3. New Business:
    1. Amalgamator articles are due October 1st
      1. Awards Recognition Dinner
      2. 228 National Meeting Highlights
      3. Highlights from Summer and Fall events.
    2. Make a Difference Day
      1. Participation depends on timing.
    3. Holiday community outreach project choices
      • Christmas is for Kids
      • Adopt a Family Program
      • Fireman's Toys for Needy Children
      1. Information about each choice will be sent to membership for voting in October by Judy Huffman.

Meeting was adjourned at 5:00PM

Next Meeting is October 12, 3:00pm at JMBA, Rm 201.
