ABSTRACT

This talk will present an overview of recent develops toward molecular electronics, highlighting results from his research program, which integrates the disciplines of synthetic organic chemistry, molecular recognition, and materials science with the aim of studying and exploiting new benzenoid nanostructures that can be potentially utilized as molecular devices such as sensors, switches, wires, ferromagnets, and other electronic and optoelectronic devices. Applications in the ever-developing areas of molecular electronic and nanotechnology will be highlighted.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Professor Rathore received his M.Sc. in 1986 from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur and his Ph.D. degree in Organic chemistry from University of Western Ontario, London, Canada in 1990. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate (1992-97) and a Visiting Assistant Professor (1997-2000) at University of Houston before joining the faculty at Marquette University in August 2000. Professor Rathore's research interests are in the area of organic supramolecular chemistry/materials chemistry. Further information about his research may be found at: http://www.marquette.edu/chem/personnel/faculty/rathore.html
