January 2003 Meeting
For dinner reservations, please call
Bruce Warren at Marquette University (414) 288-3515 or e-mail: muchem@marquette.edu by Thursday, January 16, 2003 All are welcome. Come and hear the speaker without attending the dinner. ABSTRACTWhen a component fails, a method of systematically evaluating the part for cause of failure is of vital importance for several reasons, especially for prevention of future failures. It is important to determine not only how the part failed, but also why it failed. Corrosion failures can be particularly problematic, especially if the root cause of the failure is not properly understood. This presentation will show the signs of a variety of corrosion failure modes, and will illustrate the proper analysis techniques to recognize them BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHSteve graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy from UW-Madison in 1992. Since then he has been employed as Metallurgist at Stork Technimet, Inc. Steve routinely performs metallurgical failure analyses, engineering evaluations and electrochemical corrosion tests. He also provides evaluation and consultation regarding material substitution, heat treatment, process refinement, corrosion protection, and physical and mechanical properties testing on all types of metals. He established and currently manages the electrochemical corrosion test laboratory at Stork Technimet, Inc. Steve is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin. Steve Suess of Stork Technimet talked about Corrosion Faliure Analysis at the January meeting at Mt. Mary College to an enthusistic and interested audience.
