MILWAUKEE SECTION
AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING
November 16, 2004 at 6:18PM

ACS Exams Institute, Chemistry Building, Univ. Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Present:
- Kristene K. Surerus, Scott Reid, Dimitri Gorjestani, Tom Holme, Holger Foersterling, Tony Antony, Kevin Glaeske, Pam Chvilicek, Alan Thompson.
Minutes:
- The minutes from the September 21 board meeting were approved with minor modifications.
Chair's Remarks:
- Scott will be back in town by Thursday. He will be at the section meeting this Friday. The date of the meeting was changed by one week as the speaker could not make it during the previous week..
TAG Report:
- The TAG group will be discussing strategy planning at their next meeting. They plan a local technician award. A budget proposal is attached.
- The best method for reimbursement of TAG members was discussed. Kevin suggested setting up a separate checking account. He will talk to M&I Bank as it should be the easiest to open such an account with the same bank as the local section..
Amalgamator:
- The Amalgamator went out in time for the meeting.
Chemical Education:
- The Teacher of the year solicitations went out. The section award went to Chieu D. Tran.
National Chemistry Week:
- There were four shows at Discovery world. That event was organized late this year. Twenty four teams participated at the web scavenger hunt and 346 posters were submitted for the poster contest. The TAG group organized CPR sessions.
Publicity:
- She hopes to come up with equipment to be donated when the old Aldrich building gets cleared out.
Treasurer:
- We got the travel reimbursement for councillor travel. Also the last meeting was had a big turnout and we made $407. We spent $894 on National Chemistry Week. Other expenses include TAG group, Educational committee, mailing for the Amalgamator. A detailed table is attached.
Long Range Planing:
- They are still working on the Bylaw changes.
Councilors:
- A full report from the last meeting can be found in the Amalgamator.
Great Lakes Regional Meeting:
- The Milwaukee GLRM appears on top of a Google search. The next planning meeting will be at Marquette on Dec. 8. They will try to meet every second Wed a month.
- We had a booth at the Regional meeting in Preoria. At that meeting we also won a $7500 programming award. Bill is getting symposia set up. He expects the meeting to make a profit. Alan asked about a special edition of the Amalgamator for the 2006 meeting.
