Secretary’s Minutes:
The minutes for the previous meeting were approved as submitted.
Amalgamator:
The deadline for submissions has been moved up to November 29 for the Jan./Feb. issue to make sure it goes out on time.
Treasurer’s Report:
Katie Bichler reported that the budget is on track to break even for the year. The CD for ~$6000 is coming due and will be reinvested for 18 months.
Publicity:
Mary Doyle and Claudia Jordan are looking for more volunteers to post notices of the monthly Section meetings at their workplaces, they currently have about nine and would like to increase that. Mary will take pictures of the demonstrations at Discovery World this week.
Milwaukee Section Award:
The award check will go to the Biochemistry Library at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Letters to past winners of the award have been sent out inviting them to the meeting. The membership for next year of this committee and the MSA nominating committee was discussed noting that each member of the nominating committee should be responsible for soliciting a nominee.
National Chemistry Week:
Mike McKinney and others are busy performing demonstrations at Discovery World this week. Dale Orth has agreed to chair this committee next year.
Chair-elect Remarks:
Jackie Behnke noted that a very nice article about chemistry had appeared in the Sunday supplement magazine Parade. She also noted that Easter will be late this year and so moved the April meeting the to second week rather than the third week so there wouldn’t be a conflict with Good Friday. Jackie thanked the four co-chairs for the good quality of the meetings that they put on this year.
Councilor’s:
Chuck Wilkie presented the proposal for the Section Support about the award requirements and an announcement will also appear in the January Amalgamator. (Please refer to Support of Student Presentations at National ACS Meetings).
Old Business:
Wes Olmstead is assisting Tom Thornton in compiling the member database/directory. They expect to have it completed by the end of November. They will email members of the Board proposed formats for the directory in early December to allow consideration of several possibilities before a decision on format is made at the January meeting. They have started working on identifying sponsors for the directory.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Kristene Surerus
Secretary
