Present:
- Jackie Behnke, Katie Bichler, Kevin Glaeske, Tom Holme, Tom McLinn, Beth Shepard, Alan Thompson and John Engelman.
Minutes:- The minutes were approved as read.
Chair Comments:- Jackie mentioned that she and Chuck were meeting to finish the 1999 Annual Report for the section.
Amalgamator:- Alan reported that we had a new advertisement in the Amalgamator and that the Milwaukee post office was getting the Amalgamator out late. He also mentioned that drawings and other features would be appearing in future issues of the Amalgamator.
Continuing Education:- Jackie reported on Continuing Education. Bob Gauss has set up a short course (Statistical Analysis of Laboratory Data) at Marquette University (March 7-9, 2001). People can sign either on the webpage or use the blue insert in the current (November/December> Amalgamator.
Membership:- Tom McLinn stated that we had nine renewals. He also stated that the ACS was closing in on their goal of 165,000 members. National currently has 161,000 members.
National Chemistry Week:- Tom Holme reported on National Chemistry Week. There are a series of demo shows down at Discovery World. Tom guessed that about 3000 kids would see all of the shows. Students from UWM, MATC, and Carroll College would be helping out at the shows. Tom also stated that Mary Doyle had gotten some prizes for the SACCS groups involved in the food drive, in which the winners would be announced at Alverno at the November meeting. Tom also mentioned that there exists a need to get high schools involved in NCW and barring a major calamity he would help organize activities next NCW.
Publicity:- Mary Doyle was planning on getting some press releases out concerning National Chemistry Week. Alan and Mary were also planning on getting some photographs taken at Discovery World during NCW.
Treasurer:- Katie Bichler reported that we have $4796.12 in Savings, and $753.06 in checking. Until the section receives dues from National things could get a little tight.
Project Seed:- Jackie reported that the project was looking for mentors, students and sponsors.
New Business:- John Engleman spoke to the Board about the possibility of starting a Technician Affiliate Group (TAG). By the January meeting, the board would give John a list of people that would be interested in joining such an organization. Click here for an article on TAGs.
