AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY

MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING

May 7, 2002 at 6:20 P.M.
Todd Wehr Chemistry Bldg. - Marquette University
Present:
Jackie Behnke, Diana Bergmann, Kevin Glaeske, Dimitri Gorjestani, Alex Hill, Steve Levsen, Tom McLinn,, Beth Shepard, Tom Thornton and Alan Thompson.
Minutes:
The minutes for the previous meeting were approved with a minor revision.
Amalgamator:
Alan reported an education section was going to be in the next WEB issue with sections on Teacher of the Year and pictures from the ACS meeting of the students who have been won travel awards. He also stated that he has received some cartoons that will be appearing in future issues.
Chemical Education:
It was reported that the Chemistry Olympiad was taking place and that Tony was going to nominate Dana Krejcarek for Regional Teacher of the Year.
Membership:
Diana reported that there had been six new members in the last month.
Milwaukee Section Award:
Jackie said that two nominations have been received and that they were looking for one more.
National Chemistry Week:
Jackie said that two nominations have been received and that they were looking for one more.
Nominations:
Tom stated that Nominations needed a chair and that he had some ideas to put forth on this committee.
Treasurer:
Beth gave her report. There is only one outstanding bill (postage on the election) and she collected from one delinquent advertisement. She also received one mystery deposit (88.00) and got a check from National ($150.00). She put a CD (from March) in savings and in May will renew a $5500.00 CD (for one year) and divide the $11,000.00 CD into a 2 year ($5500.00) and a 3 year ($5500.00) CD.
Long Range Planning:
Tom reported that the next meeting would be October 8, 2002 and they were going to discuss an Investment Pool.
Chair Elect:
Steve reported that speaker selection could now be done with e-mail. He encouraged everyone to e-mail their wish list to him.
Councilors:
Their report from Orlando is summarized on page 12 of the May Amalgamator and the full report is on the Amalghamator web page.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:49PM.
