MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING

March 5, 2002 at 6:22 P.M.
Todd Wehr Chemistry Bldg. - Marquette University

Tony Antony, Jackie Behnke, Diana Bergmann, Kevin Glaeske, Steve Levsen, Tom McLinn, Beth Shepard, Tom Holme, and Alan Thompson.
Minutes:
The minutes for the previous meeting were approved as read.
Amalgamator:
Alan reported that the web site has been revamped and that UW-M might not allow the section to keep the site on their servers. The section might want to look into linking the site at the ACS site. Also, he reminded the board that the election is coming up shortly.
Chemical Education:
Tony reported that the Teacher of Year has been selected (Dana Krejcarek of Kohler High School). He also stated that Chemistry Olympiad is going to be March 16 (at Carroll College) and currently there are 52 applicants for the contest.
Membership:
Diana reported that there had been six new members and 15 email inquiries. She said the bulletins she made have resulted in this increase.
Milwaukee Section Award:
Jackie said that two nominations have been received and that they were looking for one more.
National Chemistry Week:
Tom Holme reported that he was presenting a poster (at Orlando) on the Web Hunt done the last NCW.
Nominations:
Tom stated that Nominations needed a chair and that he had some ideas to put forth on this committee.
Publicity:
Steve mentioned that he knew someone to help write press releases for the section. Tom said he would talk to Mary about attending the free publicity workshop that National has in Baltimore in which the food is really great.
Treasurer:
Beth gave her report. Everything is fine, but she was wondering what to do with the CDs now coming due. It was decided to let the CDs roll over.
Chair Elect:
Steve gave a report on a leadership meeting he attended at Memphis. He reported that future directories would require an Opt in or opt out policy for members. Steve also got ideas pertaining to Legislature Action Network, Public Relations, Speakers, Scholarships for Minorities and a recommendation for updating the section's by-laws.
Councilors:
Tom reported that at the Orlando meeting he was going to be busy with by law changes for the ACS and with the Committee on Public Relations.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:12PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Kevin Glaeski
