MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING

January 11, 2000 at 6:15 P.M.
Todd Wehr Chemistry Bldg. - Marquette University

Present:

Jackie Behnke, Katie Bichler, Bud Douthitt, Mary Doyle, Kevin Glaeske, Dimitri Gorjestani, Alex Hill, Tom McLinn, Claudia Jordan, Wes Olmsted, Alan Thompson, and Tom Thorton

Secretary’s Minutes:

The minutes for the previous meeting were approved with one addition. The minutes should be amended to read that Bud Douthitt has agreed to chair the nominating committee for the Section Award.

Chair Remarks:

Jackie Benke stated that Jennifer Runquist has resigned and that she had turned over to Mike McKinney all of the materials. The disk needed to file the annual report with national was to be included in the materials. Dimitri agreed to help file the report this year. Jackie also mentioned that she would be attending the Chair elect meeting in San Antonio in Feb.

Amalgamator:

Alan reported that he has taken over the web site from Bill Edgemond. Alan moved it to the UWM Chemistry site and combined it with the amalagmator page. Alan is looking for suggestions for the site.

Membership:

Tom McLinn reported that we acquired 24 associate memberships and 2 renewals.

Publicity:

Mary Doyle reported about pictures taken at Discovery World last November.

Councilors:

Dimitri stated that he and Tom Holmes would be representing our section at the national meeting in San Francisco (March 26-30).

Project Seed:

Diane Szydel has had a meeting with more on the way. Our section should have something in the works this year.

Treasurer’s Report:

Katie Bichler reported that the section has a slight surplus that will be taken care of once the section meeting (at UWM) and some National Chemistry week activities were paid. Katie also presented the budget for next year (which is attached). After some discussion and modification the budget passed.

Old Business:

Tom Thorton reported on the progress of the member directory. The forty-page document will list everyone by place of employment and division affiliation. The board voted to mail the directory separate from the amalgamator.
