MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING

January 10, 2006 at 7:18PM
Approved March 14, 2006
Chemistry Department, Marquette University
Present:
Joe Piatt, Scott Reid, Tom Holme, Alan Thompson, Tom Thornton, Holger Foersterling, Kevin Glaeske, Tom McLinn, Bill Donaldson.
Minutes:
The minutes of the Nov. 8 meeting were approved as presented.
Chair's Remarks:
A summary of this years meeting dates is on the back of the agenda. We may move the the Board meetings to Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Feb. 11 section meeting has been moved to Feb. 10. We should have at least one meeting on the west side of town. Klemmers conference and banquet center used to be fairly cost effective.

Earth Day: We need to get something together for Earth day.

National Chemistry Week: A new coordinator is needed for National Chemistry Week.

2006 Election: We need candidates by early April for them to be published in the Amalgamator (Chair Elect, Treasurer, Secretary). We should try to recruit a chair from industry.
Past Chair's Remarks:
The annual report is due in February.
Chair-Elect Remarks:
Bill will attend a leadership seminar in Baltimore.
Committee Reports

Membership:
The local section membership is around 35, with a total of around 1000 ACS members in the section area.

Amalgamator:
The Amalgamator will go into print on Monday, it will hopefully come out in time. Peter Peterson and John Picione are still candidates to take over the Newsletter and webpage.

Awards:
We have four active nominations for the section award.

Treasurer:
The 2006 budget is attached. We are short on funds right now, but will be all right once allotment comes in. We should find two low cost locations for dinner meetings to help cut our costs. Scott motions to pass the budget, Tom Holme seconds and the budget is passed unanimously.

Student Travel Award:
Solicitations for the student travel grant will be sent out by mid January. The expectation to present at the April section meeting will be mentioned in the solicitation. We have budgeted for a total amount of $1000 for the award, and we will have a minimum of $200 for each awardee.
Great Lakes Regional Meeting:
Tom is not sure that the call for papers was published in Nov. 24 issues of C&E news. The deadline for abstracts was moved to March 31.
Old Business:
Tom will not be able to attend the National meeting in Atlanta.
New Business:
There was no new business.
Next Meeting:
We will meet again on March 14, 6pm at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50PM

Respectfully submitted, Frank-Holger Foersterling, Secretary
