Chair-Elect for 2009-2011

Serves as Chairperson in 2010

Kristen Murphy

Kristen Murphy is a Senior Lecturer at UWMilwaukee and holds a B.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Physical Inorganic Chemistry from UWM. She began teaching at UWM in the fall of 2002, teaching General Chemistry for Engineering Majors. Since that time, she has taught many different 100-level chemistry courses including Preparatory Chemistry, General Chemistry and Basic Chemistry for Teachers. In 2005, Kristen became the Associate Director of the ACS, Division of Chemical Education, Examinations Institute. Through her work at the Exams Institute, she began research in chemical education and blends the research projects developed within the Institute with her instruction in the classroom. Her research has focused on investigating the learning process through cognition psychology in both content delivery and assessment. She has particular interest in understanding the modes of cognition of preparatory chemistry students, particularly related to problem solving strategies, study and exam preparation skills, and visualization of information. She has been involved in outreach activities for both the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at UWM and for the Local Section, serving as co-chair of National Chemistry Week in 2004-2005.

TREASURER for 2009

Kathleen Kiedrowicz

I was born and raised in the Milwaukee area. I graduated from Marquette University with a Biology major and Chemistry minor. My first job was in the food industry (Chr. Hansen Labs in West Allis) using microbiology in testing products and using my chemistry background to research new foods, flavors and colorants. I am married (to Ken) and have two children (Beth and Alex) and worked part-time at the food lab until the ?baby? was ready to go to kindergarten.

My second job was at CBC Environmental Labs in Oak Creek. I began as a wet chemist testing air, water, soil and any kind of garbage you can imagine (often, a hammer was a ?matrix modifier?!). Eventually, I was trained to run Flame AA and Graphite Furnace. I eventually became a section manager, trained section employees, monitored QC, and filled in at the bench 12 as needed. That company closed, so a new job search began. Saw an ad for Lab Coordinator at Carroll College in Waukesha. Ultimately I got hired for an interesting position. I was in charge of overseeing all of the labs, lab preps, purchasing, student workers, etc. for both the Biology and Chemistry/ Biochemistry Departments. I also became a lab instructor, as well as teaching a course over the summer term. I have been here 15 years, and this is where my association with the local ACS chapter began.

As Divisional purchasing agent at Carroll I am very experienced and comfortable with a position such as treasurer. For 15 years, I was the secretary/treasurer for a club that my husband and I were members of. I am looking forward to attend more ACS meetings and being more active in the section.

SECRETARY for 2009

Angel Thompson

I graduated from Marquette University in 2005 with an Honors Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. For several years at Marquette, I was an active member and Secretary of the Marquette chapter of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. After graduation, I went on to work with Sigma-Aldrich in Milwaukee as a Technical Service Scientist. In this position, I have contact with a variety of scientists in the academic, industrial and pharmaceutical arenas. I enjoy helping others in the field answer their questions on Sigma-Aldrich products. I also enjoy the fact that my job allows me to continue learning new information every day. I have also had the opportunity to attend the San Francisco and Chicago National ACS meetings as an exhibitor and have been the Milwaukee Section Secretary for 2008.

COUNCILLOR for 2009 - 2011

Kevin W. Glaeske

Kevin Glaeske is an Associate Professor of chemistry at Wisconsin Lutheran College. He received bachelor?s degrees from Beloit College (1988) in both Chemistry and Classics. Upon graduation, he studied synthetic organic chemistry at the University of Utah under the direction of F.G. West. He received his Ph.D in 1995 and was called to teach at Wisconsin Lutheran College the same year. He has served the Milwaukee section as both Secretary and Treasurer.

ALTERNATE COUNCILLOR for 2009 - 2011
