Welcome to the 37th Great Lakes Regional Meeting (GLRM06) of the American Chemical Society. The GLRM06 is being held in Milwaukee from May 31, 2006 to June 2, 2006 and is sponsored by the Milwaukee Section of the ACS. The meeting is expecting to attract over 900 conferees to Milwaukee with strong participation from both academic and industrial institutions. The Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee and the Midwest Airlines Center are providing superb facilities for the extensive technical program and the exhibition. The two venues are conveniently connected together by the Milwaukee Skywalk. The conference scheduling is designed to improve formal and informal interactions among conference participants and between participants and exhibitors.

Several special events are planned to improve networking opportunities for all participants. A Thursday evening reception at the Milwuakee Art Museum is a key event. Ronald Breslow of Columbia University will address this reception. Tours of the new Aldrich facilities, the Frank Lloyd Wright Laboratories of SC Johnson and a tour of the Center for Biomolecular Modeling at MSOE have been planned.

The technical program for this meeting promises to be particularly engaging. In many cases, the program from different technical areas is designed to provide synergy, and symposia in these areas will be scheduled to allow participants to attend talks in all related areas. For example, the symposium on Advances in Synthetic Methodology will mesh with New Strategies for Modern Medicinal Chemistry, and both of these sessions will complement our Computational Chemistry symposium on In Silico Approaches in Drug Discovery. The educational program features technical sessions showing how projects funded by the National Science Foundation are improving the teaching of chemistry in the region. It also includes a strong program for area High School Chemistry teachers and undergraduate students. The Undergraduate Program is being coordinated with the "High School Chemaginations" session.

On Wednesday, May 31, the ACS Chemjobs Career Center will be offering Career Workshops in the morning and Résumé Reviews during the afternoon. The on-line employment center will be also be in operation. Advanced registration for this service will be required.

Before returning home, you may wish to experience some of what makes Milwaukee a "Great Place by a Great Lake". During the week of the meeting, there are a number of activities that may interest you. Check out our Experience Milwaukee page to learn about some of these activities. Most are just a short distance from the Hyatt Hotel.
